Aon Global ReSpecialty chair Cantlay to retire at the end of the year

Market veteran Piers Cantlay is to retire from his position at Aon at the end of the year, The Insurance Insider can reveal.

Cantlay has worked in a variety of reinsurance positions at the broker, most recently as chairman of Global ReSpecialty, a role he assumed in 2013.

For many years, the broker worked alongside his brother Charlie Cantlay at Aon, who joined Ascot in 2011 as an executive director.

An Aon spokesperson commented: “We would like to thank Piers for his commitment to Aon clients over many years and wish him a happy and healthy retirement.”

Prior to becoming chairman of Global ReSpecialty, Cantlay was CEO of property in the same business segment.

He leaves a retro market that has been struggling with overcapacity, the emergence of ILS capital and catastrophe losses in recent years.

This has led to widespread speculation about significant rate rises at January 2020 renewals.

Global ReSpecialty offers reinsurance solutions and analysis across a wide array of risks.

It has teams in aviation, marine, specialty, composite and non-marine.
