Hurricane Lidia intensifies to Category 4 ahead of Mexico landfall

Hurricane Lidia has strengthened to Category 4 and is expected to make landfall on the west-central coast of Mexico this evening, according to the most recent update from the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

The NHC update, issued at 15:30 MDT (17:30 EDT), indicated that the storm now has estimated maximum sustained winds near 140 mph (220 km/h).
